An emblematic piece of Louis XIV furniture, this Mazarin desk, named after the famous minister who served the king between 1642 and 1661, is in perfect condition. The spacers and the narrow space between the two bodies of drawers remind us that this type of desk required you to sit there “at an angle”: one knee under the writing surface and the other outside. The choice of this position is then imposed by the carrying of the sword, always on the left.

Throughout, the kingwood inlays in perfect condition draw elegant milled geometric patterns among which we recognize fern, butterfly wing and fan patterns. All the drawers and storage space under the top are lined with gilt bronze keyholes and lockable.
