Joseph Viez - Cabinetmaker. Paris. Mastered on July 6, 1786, in the Faubourg Saint-Germain. He made pieces in mahogany, veneer and marquetry. After obtaining his master's degree in 1786, Joseph VIEZ set up his workshop and furniture store in the Faubourg Saint-Germain, rue des Cordeliers in the Cour du Commerce, unlike his colleagues in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine. His production - chests of drawers, secretaries and desks - was in the classic Louis XVI style, executed in mahogany, veneer and shaded marquetry. An inventory drawn up on his death mentions, among other items, a trictrac table forming a desk and piquet table, a small child's secretary and a man's toilet.
