Coffee table. Louis XV period. Mid 18th century. It rests on four curved legs ending in sabots. The top is encircled by a border on three sides. The front features a niche. The sides are embellished with a cloverleaf-shaped opening to hold the piece. These small "flying" pieces of furniture were used to travel from one room to another as needed. In particular, they were used to carry leftover meals to the bedroom, to be eaten later "in case" of small hunger (creating the word "encas" for a light meal). Table relacquered in matte black with coral-red interior. Note: wear to hooves, treated wormholes.
