The bourgeoisie joyfully discovered the delicacies of these distant cultures and imported or manufactured unique and custom-made furniture that recalled these fantasized countries. This small piece of furniture bears witness to this production and takes up the Chinese and Japanese codes of pagodas whose roofs are supported by dragons, the sculpted uprights and the raised edges that one recognizes on the small shelves of display cases. However, French taste remains and bears witness to a historicism of good taste that allows this small piece of furniture to blend easily into a wealthy interior of the end of the 19th century.
