Mahogany Wall Shelf or Secretary - Late 19th century

Atypical Shelf - Secretary of wall lamp - conceived entirely in massive Mahogany of Cuba, at the end of the XIXth.
It is topped by a pediment nicely cut and presenting four small volutes.
This Retractable Piece of Furniture is constituted by Five shelves, Completely made of solid Mahogany.
The main one, in the center, is a large Writing Table, called 'Portfolio' because it unfolds in two parts. One is made of Metal while the other is made of the same Wood Essence as the Frame. These two parts are attached to each other with a long Brass Hinge. They are affixed to two folding brackets, each provided with a steel pull with a button at the end.
In the upper part, this Storage Furniture includes two Shelves offering increasing depths, from 16.5 cm for the first to 21.5 cm for the second. They rest individually on the same Foldable Supports as those described above.
In the lower part, we find two last Shelves with the same Fixation process.
All the Closing Systems, as well as the Push Buttons on the Front, are in Brass.
This Authentic Good is fixed at the back of the Pediment.
Historical note: this type of Wall Secretary was specifically invented to fit into the cramped rooms of the Boats.
