Charming wooden display case carved in the Japanese style: it is topped by a bronze dragon, and decorated with a woman in a bone and mother-of-pearl kimono on the bottom of the highest shelf.

Good overall condition: patina of age, minor wear and tear, minor lifting of veneer.

This display case is attributed to the French artist Gabriel Viardot (1830-1904): a Parisian cabinetmaker, he specialized in furniture inspired by the Japanese/Chinese taste, which he discovered at the 1967 World's Fair.
From Asia, he imported decorative panels in lacquer or relief, adorned with mother-of-pearl for example, and assembled them into his furniture, to which he added bronze ornamentation.
The Japonisme style has been successful since the 19th century.
