Louis XVI stamped backgammon table, Paris, Louis XVI period.

A great classic of the Louis XVI period, this coffee table is made of mahogany and mahogany veneer, with an antique architecture. It features fluted tapered legs, like columns and entablatures, topped with fluted masses connecting apron crosspieces with rectangular reserves in low relief.

The piece features a removable top, one side of which can be used as a desk, with black leather with a gold vignette. The other side is covered with green felt for playing cards. Removing the top provides access to the backgammon game.

The apron opens with two drawers for counters arranged opposite each other.

This games table is stamped under the edge of a side crosspiece J.M.SCHILER for Jean Martin Schûler, cabinetmaker from Alsace born in 1753, he joined Paris, started as a free opener, on June 27, 1781 then aged 28, he was received at the master's level, the main part of his production will be Louis XVI, some marquetry furniture but especially mahogany furniture "with well-balanced lines" as for our tric-trac table. The Palace of Fontainebleau preserves "a large Louis XVI dining room table, round in shape, in mahogany, resting on six fluted tapered legs and fitted with extensions. »

Elegant and refined living room furniture, devoid of bronze except for the small lens-shaped knobs used to pull the drawers. The strips framing the removable top are removable for easier restoration and changing the felt. These strips are held in place by screws, and fortunately, they are still the original screws, easily recognizable by their threads, filed down, giving them their so-called "pigtail" shape.

This piece of furniture is in very good condition; the felt and leather are later and in very good condition.
