Louis XVI period game table. Late 18th century. Rare model with removable central cassetin. In solid mahogany and mahogany veneer, it rests on five tapered, fluted legs, topped with rings and finished with bronze sabots. The belt, on all sides, is embellished with brass quarter-round baguettes on the crosspieces (including the back) and brass plates on the square leg weights. The top is sheathed in mahogany-edged felt and encircled by an ingot mould. The center of the top houses the mahogany cassetin. The cassetin has eight compartments for chips around the perimeter, with a hot-water bottle lamp in the middle. The table can be configured in a variety of ways, folding up to form a half-moon console. In this case, the tabletop is completed by a mahogany semicircle that closes off the cassetin storage area. In the game table version, this reserve can accommodate either the cassetin or a felt-covered disc. Pad varnish finish.
