This small mahogany burl veneer secretary is topped with a Belgian Sainte Anne grey marble. It has a high drawer equipped with a functional lock and a key. Below, it consists of a flap with a key, revealing a rosewood storage space with a niche and six small drawers of different capacities. They open with small finely carved brass pull knobs and have a lemonwood interior. On the front, the rosewood is decorated with lemonwood fillets forming a frame on each of the drawers. The flap is covered with original black leather, decorated with a central vignette, corner fleurons, a gold vignette and a cold stamped vignette. In the lower part, this secretary has two doors opening onto three English drawers. Finally, a last drawer is hidden in the plinth of the piece of furniture. We will appreciate the ogee moldings framing the central part of the piece of furniture, as well as the decorative pearl garlands highlighting the grain of the mahogany burl.
The absence of compasses also makes this secretary unique since it is a system with lead weights, complex for the time, which allows the flap to close autonomously as soon as its tilting point is reached. The quality of the materials used for the design of this secretary and its small size make it a rare piece of furniture.
