A satinwood, amaranth, rosewood and rosewood marquetry jumping commode, decorated on the front and sides with Chinese lacquer panels featuring landscapes with pagodas animated by Chinese figures and birds (sides), opening to two drawers, Aleppo breche marble top, curved legs, from the 18th century Transition period.
This commode is in good overall condition and is of remarkable quality. These commodes decorated with panels in the Chinese style were particularly fashionable at the time, in keeping with the appeal of 18th-century chinoiserie.
The ornamentation is in gilded bronze: ribbon-knot escutcheons and leafy sabots.
