    This small solid walnut "sauteuse" chest has two rows of drawers. The crossbow-shaped front rests on curved legs terminating in sabots, while the front jambs are inlaid halfway up with a small five-pointed star. The crossbeam under the drawers, carved with a shell in the center, is scalloped and edged with a small elegiac cordon, as are the sides. It features later bronze drop handles and lock escutcheons. Originally from the Rhône Valley, it was produced in the 18th century. Well-preserved, the wood is sound, and only the ends of the legs and drawers have been restored.
