Pierre Flechy, Entre Deux Galbée Chest of Drawers In Stamped Louis XV Period Marquetry
circa 1760
Delightful Louis XV period "Commode d'Entre Deux Galbée" in Rosewood and Amaranth veneer, resting on Pinched Mounts ending in Cambered Feet. The front opens with four drawers on three rows.
This Chest of Drawers, with its Curved Front inlaid with Frisage, is trimmed with an attractive Breche à Bec de Corbin marble. Beautiful ornamentation in gilded and chased bronze, such as draw handles, lock escutcheons, lamp bases and shoes. Has two keys.
Furniture of very fine craftsmanship, stamped with the JME, Poinçon des Jurandes and stamped on the right jamb by the Grand Ebéniste, Pierre FLECHY (1715-1769).
Pierre Fléchy, Master in 1756. Pierre Fléchy set up his workshop on rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, where he worked first as a privileged craftsman, then as a Master Ebéniste from 1756. His tasteful, high-quality furniture was highly appreciated in the trade. He produced mainly chests of drawers, corner cupboards and secretaries with attractive undulating forms, coated with lacquer or European varnish in the Chinese style. But this cabinetmaker's originality lay above all in covering his furniture with marquetry of large light-wood flowers contrasting against a rosewood or violet background. Pierre Fléchy is still listed on rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine in 1769.
Louis XV period, circa 1760, 18th century.
