Nicolas Jean Marchand, Regency Period Curved Commode Stamped
Around 1730
Superb and Elegant Curved Chest of Drawers from the Regency Period, in Violet Wood Veneer in Point of Diamonds, Opening with Four Drawers in Three Rows. Its Rounded Amounts Decorated with Brass Grooves.
It is Garnished with a Pink Gray Marble Top (formerly restored). Beautiful Ornamentation in Gilded and Chiseled Bronze such as Dropping Pull Handles, Keyholes, Front Feet, Lamp Base.
Buffer varnish.
Commode of Very Good Manufacturing Quality, Stamped On Each Side Upright by the Famous Cabinetmaker Nicolas Jean Marchand (1697 - 1755).
Nicolas Jean Marchand, born around 1697 and received a master around 1730, held his studio in rue Saint-Nicolas until around 1760. He successfully made luxury furniture. He was by marriage the brother-in-law of RVLC whose two sisters had married Jean-François and Simon Oeben.
