Louis XVI period chest of drawers with Greek marquetry. Late 18th century. It is made of solid walnut, burr walnut, yew, rosewood, and green-stained wood and lemonwood fillets. It rests on four sheathed legs ending in bronze sabots. The front uprights have canted sides and are decorated with frame fillets and small bronze leaf falls on the top. The two drawers are veneered with burr walnut in yew frames separated by triple fillets known as "Greek" in green-stained wood and lemonwood. These are highlighted at the corners by rosewood squares. The drawers are decorated with bronze pull rings and keyholes. The locks are period and functional, fitted with a key. The sides have the same marquetry as the drawers. The chest of drawers is topped with Turquin de Caunes marble, a shaded gray with wide crimson veins, molded with a cove. The sash is made of oak and fir. The varnish has been refinished.
