Louis XV period chest of drawers Stamped P. Migeon and J.Tuart. Mid 18th century. Rosewood veneered chest of drawers in poly-lobed reserves with violet wood frames and boxwood fillets. The frame and base are in oak. It opens with two drawers. The front is slightly curved. The front jambs are rounded and inlaid with fern-like violet wood. They end in cambered feet trimmed with hooves. Bronze trimmings include handles, escutcheons, lantern finials and sabots. The top is in violet Brocatelle marble, with a double corbin beak molding along the edge. Two more recent, functional locks with keys. Recent stamped varnish finish. Stamped J.TUART for Jean Baptiste I TUART received master on February 1, 1741. Established in the Saint-Germain-L'auxerrois cloister, this cabinetmaker received various commissions from the Menus-Plaisirs administration between 1744 and 1753. Second stamp of cabinetmaker and merchant Pierre MIGEON IV (II) with JME hallmarks. Tuart also collaborated in his time with Léonard BOUDIN, cabinetmaker and merchant who repeatedly left his stamp next to his own.
