Transition period two-drawer jumping chest of drawers from the Grenoble region.
Composed of ash burl, cherry veneer, rosewood marquetry and rosewood fillets, it features light woods contrasted with darker ones.
The richly ornamented facade features several detailed frames: the first in wild cherry marquetry, then in ash burl and finally a central medallion: a superb bird scene.
The sides and jambs feature the same compositions, with dark rosewood used for the circular geometrical shapes.
This elegant ensemble rests on 4 curved legs, topped with a white-veined cherry-red marble.
Beautifully crafted with tastefully composed marquetry, the commode is adorned with gilded bronzes (handles, keyhole, sabots and apron).
Although the quality of the commode, the types of wood used such as ash burl, the bird-themed marquetry and the embossed chamfers on the legs are reminiscent of the work of the Hache dynasty and, more specifically, of Jean-François Hache, the attribution as it stands is not certain. What is certain is that this exceptional commode illustrates the style and talent of the finest Dauphin cabinetmakers.
