A handsome, strongly curved commode in rosewood veneer with rhombus fringe. It opens with 6 drawers (2 large, 2 smaller at the top and one hidden between the 2 at the top); oak structure; it is topped with pink Languedoc marble molded in a "bec de corbin" pattern. Richly decorated with finely chased and gilded bronzes typical of the Rocaille style. Our chest of drawers is characterized by the play of curves and counter-curves (concave and convex drawers) that give it a perfect, very elegant line. Parisian work of the Louis XV period circa 1750, stamped IB HEDOUIN, struck twice with 3 JME hallmarks.
Jean-Baptiste Hédouin (died January 1783) cabinetmaker and maker, Paris, mastered May 22, 1738. In his workshop on rue Traversière-Saint-Antoine, Hédouin produced mainly commodes, but also secretaries and flat desks adorned with varied marquetry, often with geometric motifs in the Louis XV style, and always of fine quality.
Beautiful piece of furniture in perfect condition: very sound base that has undergone few interventions since its manufacture. The chest of drawers has been completely restored to its original state, with its original marble intact and its beautiful original bronzes gilded with fine gold in matt and bright (very beautiful gilding). Superb.
