Jacques Van Oostenryk dit DAUTRICHE

Mastered on May 24, 1765.
Originally from the Netherlands, he moved to Paris before 1743. First a simple worker, then a free craftsman, he was already known as a talented marker when he was awarded the title of Master Cabinetmaker on May 24, 1765. He subsequently won commissions for the royal houses and for the furnishings of the Comte d'Artois at the Palais du Temple. After a long period of residence on rue Traversière, Dautriche moved to rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, not far from the asile des Enfants-Trouvés, where he signed his work with the pseudonym J. DAUTRICHE, the French translation of his Flemish name. The Mobilier national conserves two fine commodes in bois de rapport; one, from the Louis XV period, with flower panels, is on display at the Musée du Louvre. The former Rikoff collection included a piece from the same period, featuring unusual tile mosaics. Other fine marquetry pieces bearing his stamp were sold by the antiquarian Chappey and M. Allard de Meeus. His mahogany pieces are rarer. Baron de Beurnonville owned a chest of drawers of this type, resting on oblique fluted legs and decorated with fine bronzes in the manner of Thomire. He died towards the end of 1778.

Louis XVI period furniture, circa 1770, 18th century.
