Elegant Louis XV chest of drawers in violet wood, stamped Migeon.
Pierre Migeon, famous master cabinetmaker of the 18th century, worked for the Duke of Orleans, the Marquise de Pompadour and received orders from the Garde-Meuble of King Louis XV. His quality creations are appreciated by a renowned clientele. His works are notably exhibited in the Beauvais Museum, the Petit Palais in Paris and in Fontainebleau.
This chest of drawers with movement on the front and on the sides has two independent drawers in the upper part, a secret drawer and a large drawer in the lower part.
The fronts of these drawers have a violet wood marquetry worked in quatrefoil, framed with bands more or less wide. These are positioned in a different direction, horizontal, vertical or diagonal. This geometrical marquetry brings the illusion of a facade in movement, mixing the deep and shimmering veins of violet wood.
All the ornaments adorning this exceptional piece of furniture are in gilded bronze. Installed later, the entrances and handles are delicately chiseled and formed with foliage.
On each side, the uprights are trimmed with falls in the upper part and end with a sabot foot.
A low and cut out crosspiece is decorated with a charming bronze trim.
Moreover, this chest of drawers is topped with a thick Breche d'Alep marble from the Bouches-du-Rhône. This one is with movement composed of a beak of corbel and a throat.
