Beautiful curved console in mahogany veneer and mahogany-tinted fruit wood, fine trim of chiseled and gilded bronzes decorated with laurel wreaths and facing winged muses surrounding a lyre. Square section pilaster uprights decorated with moldings, it is topped with granite gray marble. Empire Period
From a stylistic point of view, our console is typical of the pure Empire style which developed from 1805. If the Consulate-Directory style is still imbued with a lightness of the 18th century with the persistence of shy curves and elements zoomorphic, the pure Empire style is "straight". An evocation of antiquity with an archaeological vocation in an architectural dimension all in straight lines and abandoning the "chimeras" (sphinxes, animals in the round, human figures on lion shanks, etc.) which characterized the consulate style.
Our console is an extra-ordinary proposition due to its curved shape. It was made to be placed in a rotunda living room or a room fitted out in a castle tower like in Valencay or Digoine, so as to follow the curves of a wall which is not rectilinear. The curvature is small, the console is intended for a large circular room.
