Rectangular console in gilded wood resting on a fluted and carved sheath foot on which falls a garland of flowers, the openwork central crosspiece carved with rosettes is punctuated by a double projection and two flower garlands on either side of the foot. The sides are also perforated and repeat the same motifs as on the front.
This console from the Louis XVI period takes up the classic motifs, fluting, interlacing, sheath, acanthus leaf then up to date following the resumption of the excavations of Herculaneum and Pompei (1738).
The use of flower garlands brings a certain lightness to the whole and helps to counterbalance the rigor of the classic lines.
Circa 1785, sculpted and gilded linden, topped with gray veined white marble.
Good state of conservation, some chips are to be noted on the gilding. Inventory mark on the reverse of the rear crosspiece.
