Antique Smith Napoletana console in mahogany with maple inlay grafts.
The marble top rests on a band underneath inlaid with raceme and griffin motifs, and is in turn supported by four baluster feet in the neo-Gothic style typical of the period to which it belongs.
Corresponding to the four columns, there are supporting legs surmounted by the same inlay represented in the band under the top.
George Smith: Owner of a large cabinetmaking workshop in London and active between 1804 and 1828, famous for publishing an album of engravings entitled "A Collection of Designs for Household Furniture" in 1808, some scholars suggest that the Neapolitan "Smith" furniture was inspired by George Smith's designs.
