Small writing cabinet in the Charles X style, consisting of two elements. Its belt features a central drawer whose rosewood veneered front is embellished with a beautiful light wood marquetry surrounded by a lemon fillet. In the center, a brass fitted key is accompanied by an original lock in working order and highlighted by a filleted escutcheon. Underneath, a ¼ round with brass square runs around the cabinet. The unit rests on 4 turned spindle-shaped feet with stopped flutes, with a brass collar with doucine at the top and a concave-shaped spacer at the bottom that connects and maintains the solidity of the four feet. The latter features marquetry on a rosewood base. The centerpiece is a bronze pine cone. The legs are turned into a top.
The upper part of the cabinet features two doors decorated with light wood compositions on a rosewood background. The marquetry features roses, branches and foliage. Each scene is highlighted by lemon-tree fillets. Between the two doors is a brass applique cover with a groove on each side. The original lock is accompanied by a filleted keyhole. Opening the door reveals a shelf. Underneath, two small drawers complete the storage space.
This cabinet has a writing surface that folds out on brass hinges. It rests on the open drawer. The frame is made of mitered rosewood, and the center features new oxblood-colored leather with cold-pressed vignette, gilded vignette and corner motifs.
Finally, the top of the cabinet is trimmed with a brass openwork gallery with return on the front.
Refined and elegant, this small quality piece of furniture with carved ornamentation will delight with its functionality and ideal dimensions.
