Small Asian cabinet, in solid light walnut, attributed to Gabriel Viardot (1830-1906).
A French woodcarver and pupil of Jeanselme, Viardot was renowned for his avant-garde work in the production of Asian furniture.
This piece of furniture, featuring niches, opens with a slightly shaped, recessed, banded drawer with chased motifs on the front and returns. The drawer is fitted with a gilded bronze elephant-head handle.
The top, with pagoda-style reversed ends, features a removable altar with bronze dragon ornamentation.
The central part features a door mounted on brass pommels with a functional original lock. This door, with its molded frame, is darkened by a recessed panel inlaid with bone and mother-of-pearl motifs depicting a stork in a plant setting.
The interior features a shelf on cleats.
The uprights are rounded and protruding.
The unit rests on a projecting base, also rounded and delicately carved, adorned with a chimera's head.
At the corners, the legs are curved and recessed inwards.
This highly decorative cabinet will add cachet to your decor.
