George Horsfield (1882-1956) was a British architect and archaeologist who was Chief Inspector of Antiquities in Transjordan between 1928 and 1936. In 1925, he participated in the initial clearing and conservation of Gerasa. Then, with his wife Agnes Conway, he excavated Petra in 1929.

The name and address of its owner are hand-painted. The location given refers to the village of West Byfleet, Surrey, England.
