- The highly architectural silhouette of our cabinet is initiated by a base with an inverted cavet, while a large cornice featuring a paneled pediment completes its order. The front opens like a cupboard, with a lock on the right-hand door. All exterior and interior surfaces are covered with a rich straw marquetry. This was executed with great care. This is evidenced by the smallness of the straw pieces and their arrangement to form complex patterns. In addition to the marquetry, the very small dimensions of this box add to its preciousness.
- The straw marquetry motifs are varied: the outer and inner sides of the leaves are adorned with friezes, checkerboards and flower vases, and the pediment with pearl festoons and a central coat of arms (two rampant lions facing each other, supporting an open crown above interlacing knotwork, evoking a monogram).
- Once open, the cabinet's interior is divided into eight compartments in three rows. Each drawer is framed by a fine marquetry frame and has a knob in its center. In reality, the cabinet's architecture reveals hiding places for collectors to conceal precious objects; the first row is one and the same drawer, the middle drawer once removed reveals a hidden drawer, the element of the pediment where the weapons are arranged pulls out like a drawer.
- Used condition, with some missing parts (see photos).
- Dimensions: Width: 38 cm , Depth: 20.7 cm , Height: 36.5 cm
