Rare shallow sideboard in satin-finish veneer with filleted frames on an oak and fir body. With canted jambs, it rests on claw feet and is adorned with a rich trim of chased and mercury-gilded bronzes (superb corner falls with rows of piastres). This large and handsome piece of furniture opens through 2 large doors whose interiors are also inlaid. It is topped with its original Breche d'Alep marble, carved with cavet (luxury marble). Parisian work of the Transition Louis XV Louis XVI period, circa 1770.
Our sideboard is undoubtedly a piece of commissioned furniture, rare for its very practical format: its shallow depth - 41cm - gives it a small footprint with great decorative effect. A piece of furniture that looks big but doesn't take up floor space. It can be used as a dining room sideboard, but is also a perfect complement to our satin-finish cylinder desk, to create a storage unit where files can be placed invisibly. It's a rare proposition, an unusual piece of furniture. The quality of the bronzes, the luxury marble and the interior of the marquetry veneered doors are also signs of high quality.
It is in very good condition; stamp varnish cleaned and repolished by our cabinetmaker. No damage to the veneer, original marble. The beautiful ormolu corner falls are old, but brought back later.
