Description

Very special Italian Art Nouveau cabinet. In Italy they call this Stile Lyberty. The architecture of the cabinet is sleek and inspired by Arts and Crafts. The decoration is very rich and consists of a combination of different Art Nouveau styles. We see an abstract, sleek layer consisting of lines and circles. Then there is the elegant style of international Art Nouveau with floral motifs and whiplash lines. And finally there are the modernist Italian landscapes in color, which are applied as a panel to the cabinet. This wealth of decoration and color is typically Italian, as is the fruit tree wood used. I haven't come across any furniture that looks like this yet. What is clear; the maker was directly inspired by the buildings of architect Raimondo D'Aronco for the 1902 World Exhibition in Turin. See last images. In the colorful watercolor he made for the inside of the main building we also see a similar Italian pine landscape. The shape of the glass in the doors is also similar, as is the combination of different Art Nouveau styles.
