Our silver-plated brass staff comes to us from Sicily. It is a remarkable piece.
Nestled in a rich rocaille setting is the Cross engraved with the initials P.M.D.V, for "Pro Mariae Devotione Vera", meaning "For true devotion to Mary".
At the top sits the crowned Virgin resting on a base decorated with three coral flowers from Trapani, which coral was symbolically considered the blood of the Savior.
