Small altarpieces were usually created for private devotion. More rarely, it was a model presented to a patron as a proposal for the creation of a monumental work.
Our miniature altarpiece is made of carved wood. It features four Corinthian columns, angels' heads, various decorations and four niches for Saint figures. On the altar is a tabernacle whose door rotates to reveal a small cavity. Above, logically in the centerpiece, sits Saint Joseph, carrying the Child.
Decorated in marble, it is beautifully polychromed and gilded.
This is precision Italian work from the 18th century.
Dimensions: 78 cm high by 53 cm wide and 17 cm deep.
Good condition - a few missing pieces.
