Chalice Paten Silver Vermeillé Minerve Maison Evellin Rennes Crucifixion XXth century

Chalice and paten in finely chased vermeil silver, foot decorated with a representation of Christ's crucifixion, knot AD JESUM PER MARIAM ("To Jesus through Mary"), bol HIC EST ENIM CALIX SANGUINIS MEI ET AETERNI TESTAMENTI ("for this is the cup of my blood of the eternal covenant"), Minerve hallmark and VF goldsmith's mark, sold by Maison Evellin* in Rennes, early 20th century.
This chalice is in good condition, as is its paten. Sold in its original box (hinge damaged). This chalice and paten were consecrated on 10/11/1938 by Monseigneur Mignen (1875-1939), archbishop of Dol, Rennes and Saint-Malo (certificate enclosed, cf photo). Punched paten and bowl.

* The Évellin family

is a French family of goldsmiths, bronzemakers and chasubliers-brodeurs, specializing in liturgical art, paramentiquers and the creation and restoration of goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares. The current company is called Évellin Orfèvre. Since the business was founded in Nantes in 1822, several silversmiths have succeeded one another from father to son. The business grew rapidly within the family, and in 1924, a branch was opened in Rennes. At the time, the Évellin family was a supplier to the bishoprics, with goldsmiths and embroiderers renowned for the quality of their workmanship.
