Finely chiseled silver-gilt chalice and paten, flattened knot mounted on a round base decorated with a stylized cross, hallmarked Minerva and silversmith Henri Nesme* (silversmith J&C for the paten), in its original case, circa 1950, 20th century.
This chalice is in good condition and is of very good quality (it is weighted). The paten (probably not original, but fits well) is hallmarked Minerva and silversmith J&C, most likely for Jamain & Chevron.
This chalice and paten were consecrated on June 24, 1953.
Note: some minor scratches and wear on the silver-gilt, and a small dent and deformation on the edge of the paten; see photos.
* Henri Nesme, who died in 1935, has the hallmark HN on both sides of one chalice. He carved his hallmark on July 25, 1924, and crossed out on December 31, 1964. Succession of Maison Berger-Nesme: A goldsmith's house founded in Lyon by Henri Nesme, a descendant of a family of goldsmiths from Lyon. Hallmark carved in 1889, crossed out in 1924.
