Belle Époque silver-plated bronze planter with scroll decoration. This oval centerpiece rests on four feet and has two openwork handles. The planter bears the hallmark of Master Goldsmith Victor SAGLIER. It also features a small removable silver-plated basin.
Known for his Art Nouveau work, Victor Saglier (1809-1894) produced several pieces for Louis Majorelle, Daum and Emile Gallé. His work was often inspired by nature. The sign of master silversmith Victor Saglier is an oval-shaped three-masted sailing ship surrounded by the letters V and S.
Saglier made everyday objects such as glass vases, bowls and pitchers with metal mounts, planters, tea and coffee sets and candleholders in bronze or silver-plated metal.
On his death, the Victor Saglier company at 12 rue d'Enghien in Paris became Saglier Frères. It was run by his brothers Eugène and André until his death in 1948.
