Hand-painted oval miniature representing the portrait of a young man in officer's clothing, attributed to Mrs. Vve Lallemand*, in a gilded brass frame decorated with a knot on the top, from the 19th century.
This miniature is in good condition and is of remarkable quality. It is not signed but can be attributed to Adèle Lallemand (we are offering two signed miniatures for sale, of the same provenance and of the same quality).
Note: slight wear on the right side of the miniature, light from time, particularly on the brass frame, see photos.
We offer other Lallemand miniatures for sale on this site.
* Lallemand or The German Adèle (1807-after 1870):
Painter and painter in miniature. Born Le Corbeiller, she was a student of Jean-Hilaire Belloc and worked in Paris. She must have married around 1839 or 1840 because, from 1835 to 1838, she exhibited at the Salon under her maiden name, and from 1840 to 1870, under her married name. She took up miniatures quite late, perhaps not before 1857, and also painted flowers in watercolor. One of the rare known portraits of her, kept at the Museum of Fine Arts in Rouen, has presence thanks to an energetic look and attests to her talent in the rendering of the fabrics. It is signed Mme V. Lallemand, for “widow Lallemand”. (Referenced in “Painters in miniature” by Nathalie Lemoine-Bouchard).
