Bronze medal representing the profile of Emperor Napoleon I, signed A.Bovy*, in a wooden frame, from the 19th century.
This medal is in good condition. Signed on the edge.
Note: dirt on the medal, some scratches on the wood, see photos.
* Antoine Bovy (1795 -1877)
is a Swiss sculptor and medalist naturalized French. In 1824, he was sent to Paris to study with the sculptor James Pradier, a professor at the École supérieure des beaux-arts. In 1831, he brought his family to the French capital; from that year, he exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon, until 1865. In 1835, he was naturalized French and won a gold medal in engraving. In 1843, he was named a knight of the Legion of Honor. His brothers, Marc-Louis, director of the Geneva Mint, and Jules, struck the medals engraved by Antoine; they had formed the company Bovy Frères et Cie. We know of nearly 200 coins (coins, tokens and medals) including numerous commemorative medals as well as coins for the French, Geneva and Swiss mints.
