Table inkwell in brown patina bronze, resting on a curved circular saucer. Neoclassical in style, the bulbous body is decorated with scrolls, palmettes and gadroon friezes, and stands on three feet forming clawed fawn paws. The domed lid is surmounted by a handle featuring a man's head with a handsome Etruscan-style face. Decorated with rope braces, it swings on a hinge to reveal a reservoir. A horizontal handle is present to move the set. The signature "F. Barbedienne" is engraved on the reverse of the saucer, testifying to the quality of its manufacture.
Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892)
