Beautiful bronze inkwell by Albert Marionnet (1852 - 1910), renowned bronze maker, engraver and Parisian founder, some of whose works are presented at the Musée d'Orsay.
At the time, his thriving business supplied the luxury boutiques of the Second Empire and then the Third Republic.
The piece we are presenting is coated with his two signatures, as always when he founded his own creations. On the front, his artist signature A. MARIONNET, on the back his foundry signature, A. MARIONNET Bronzes PARIS accompanied by the words Made in France.
This inkwell is an Art Nouveau creation around 1900. We note the presence of a stylized flower, probably a rose, on the three front sides.
However, the lines of the object make us think that Albert Marionnet, who died in 1910, was a strangely visionary and undeniable precursor of Art Deco. The pyramid which arbitrates the orifice of the inkwell with its four-sloped lid twenty years in advance!
Art Nouveau period and almost Art Deco style, this is the inkwell you need on your desk.
