Silver-plated bronze inkwell depicting an Arab bust wearing a turban, concealing the space for the inkpot, set on an onyx base.
This orientalist-style inkwell is signed Alp Giroux et Cie.
Good condition, missing behind the figure's hands due to casting
Maison Giroux (a family business) was a Parisian manufacturer of luxury furniture and objects for bourgeois and aristocratic customers. Often inspired by the creations of past centuries, Maison Giroux was also quick to innovate and mix new techniques: porcelain-encrusted furniture, toys, sewing kits, mirrors, etc.
The taste and refinement of their production endures, and the objects/furniture are still highly sought-after today.
Taken over in 1838 by brothers Alphonse-Gustave (Paris 1810-1886) and André (Paris 1801-1879) under the name Alphonse Giroux et Cie, the former Giroux firm disappeared in 1885.
