Beautiful fireplace kit, consisting of an ash shovel, an articulated log tongs, a poker. This is the classic 2-piece set, this time with the added firebrand. Louis XVI style work in nickel-plated wrought iron from the late 18th or early 19th century. The quality and care given to the finishes recall the work of Plombières.

Plombières-les-Bains, a spa town in the Vosges whose origins date back to the 2nd century with the first thermal baths built by the Romans. We know it as the fashionable resort during the Second Empire with the visits of Napoleon III, but it already had great success in the 18th century with the Dukes of Lorraine, but also Montaigne, Mesdames Adélaïde and Victoire, daughters of Louis XV of France, Voltaire, Beaumarchais.
It was at this time that a cutting-edge craft specific to Plombières developed to satisfy this tourism "market": the work of forging fireplace tools like our set up to the making of small display items, blacksmith masterpieces in extremely finely forged steel; small objects with balls which were then faceted like diamonds: belt buckles, shoe buckles, sword handles sheathed in shagreen, chaplains, small reduced pieces of furniture and other display items.

Beautiful set, one of those little details which complete an 18th century decoration and give it a taste of authenticity.
