This pair of andirons is completely original because of the material in which it was created. Indeed, it is common to come across andirons made of cast iron or wrought iron but very few are made of ceramic. Relatively simple in shape, these anthropomorphic andirons are decorated with busts of little girls enameled with a brown glaze. Used condition, see photos. Length 28 cm, width 8 cm, height 14 cm.
Our pair of andirons is the work of an artistic craftsman, living in the former region of the Duchy of Savoy in the northwest of present-day Italy and annexed to France under the Second Empire of Napoleon III. Glazed terracotta, formerly northern Italy, circa 1850.
