Pair of gilded bronze Chenets in the Louis XVI style with Pots à feux and Béliers 19th century - Beurdeley

PAIR OF LOUIS XVI STYLE CHENETS attitbuted to Alfred-Emmanuel Beurdeley (1847-1919) marked "BY" with foundry numbering under one element of a base (visible on dismantling, see photo).

in the style of the elegant Modéles by Philippe Caffieri ( 1714/1774 ), the central part of the set features a large fluted fire pot with foliage, a string of whiplash pearls on the front, and an exploded pomegranate on the lower part.

Surrounded by two support elements decorated with rams' heads and feet and acanthus leaf motifs, seated on a plate with cavet molding, and surrounded by two large bronze brackets with half-rose plant motifs.

The whole rests on a sumptuous, rich Base with rounded edges, incorporated entelac friezes, rosette knobs, pearl frieze edging, and ends with six very fine molded toupee feet.Condition report: Very fine original gilding in two matte and glossy tones and guilloches with a fine sheen.Traces of use and age old object. Complete. Fully dismantled and cleaned by our Heritage Conservation workshop.

Very high quality workmanship, more than 25 pieces make up one andirons, the assembly is very well executed. They can be used for a wide variety of decorative purposes, such as as a console base, on a marble entablature, on a mantelpiece or for framing an element. (without irons supplied)

Biblio: The Beurdeley family was one of the most important furniture-making dynasties of the 19th century. They brought their art to a level of skill rarely equaled. They were in business for three generations, from 1818 to 1895.

The Beurdeleys are particularly renowned for the quality of their gilded bronze mounts and the choice of precious materials for the ornamentation of their furniture and objets d'art.

Alfred, like his colleagues Dasson, Grohé and Fourdinois, took part in the prestigious 1878 Exposition Universelle, where he was awarded the gold medal. This success enabled him to open a gallery in New York. His participation in the 1883 World's Fair in Amsterdam brought him even greater success. He was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur.
