Beautiful fireplace bar or gallery fire in gilded bronze, Empire Consulate period, early 19th century circa 1800-1805.
Decorated with two sphinxes lying on the side terraces; the gallery is a grid decorated in the center with a mask and flanked by 3 passing griffins and palm leaves. The collections of the Palais de Fontainebleau have a variant of this model in terms of the motifs of the gallery which comes from the General Moreau hotel from which it was removed in 1804 (see No. 265 page 264 Jean Pierre Samoyault - Pendules and bronze furniture entered under the First Empire.). The author of these bronzes is not identified, but we can assume that it is a great Parisian bronze maker, supplier of imperial furniture such as Galle, Ravrio or Thomire
Very beautiful object in very good condition, ideal to complete an Empire period decoration. The mercury gilding is original, attenuated by exposure to the heat of the hearth. Complete and functional. some small gaps in the decor, including a palmette on the left terrace.
