Beautiful mercury-gilded and patinated bronze mantel bar, Empire-Restauration period, early 19th century circa 1820.
The 2 side parts slide to adapt to the size of the mantel. The bar can be extended from 140cm to 160cm in length. Adorned with two lionesses reclining on the side terraces; matte and glossy decoration of dolphins facing each other, framing a fountain, with a central rosette flanked by long palmettes. The Egyptian lions on the pedestals are inspired by those on the Capitoline in Rome. They can be found on many Empire-period fires produced by Claude Galle and André-Antoine Ravrio.
A beautiful object in very good condition, ideal for completing an Empire decor. The gilding is original, but slightly faded. Complete and functional.
Our bar is a great model for a large chateau mantelpiece.
Length: 140cm to 160cm
