Gilt bronze and patinated Tazza cup on foot with neo-classical decoration in low relief in the antique style.
This work by Ferdinand Levillain (1837-1905) represents a procession of Greco-Roman characters leading farm animals and victuals. Thin and long branches forming garlands, run above their heads. In the center, a stylized sun shines, surrounded by decorative masks. The whole is encircled by a frieze combining arabesques, flowers and leaves.
This cup rests on an elegant pedestal and bears the signature of the foundry F. Barbedienne.
Ferdinand Levillain exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1861 to 1903. He worked throughout his career for the greatest goldsmiths and received the Legion of Honor in 1892.
