Provenance Château Wannegem-Lede
The Château, often referred to as "The Château of Castles" or "The Little Trianon of Flanders", is located between Ghent and Oudenaerde. It is a typical example of a late 18th-century "Maison de Plaisance" in Louis XVI style.
The building (1785-86) was designed by Barnabé Guimard, a pupil of Jacques IV Angel Gabriel, rebuilder of Versailles, and architect of the Place Royale and Place Warande in Brussels, by order of Charles de Lorraine.
The principal was Alphonse Pierre Antoine Baut de Rasmon,
His father had purchased the Seigneurie de Wannegem-Lede in 1765 from the Montmorency family. The park was designed according to the ideas of the German gardener Hirschfeld.
The estate is an outstanding example of late 18th-century cultivation.
