mposing ovoid-shaped covered vase in gilded bronze, richly decorated on each side with a medallion enclosing a deity on his chariot in the clouds, framed by friezes and garlands, a putti at the top and a satire at the bottom. Surrounded by foliage, interlacing and chimeras. Pedestal decorated with garlands of fruit and flowers. Double handles adorned with plant garlands and ending with vine branches. The vase is topped with a pinecone lid.

Neo-Renaissance work from the 19th century, in the style of the ornamental designer Claude-Aimé Chenavard (1798-1838). He is known to have produced a vase originally for the Sèvres factory, now in the Château de Fontainebleau. This example in polychrome porcelain paste was so successful at the Manufactures Royales exhibition of 1832, that a version in blue and white porcelain was produced and subsequently preserved in the Louvre Museum. An example in gilded bronze is in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Condition report: in good condition with its original cleaned gilding and light wear and greenspots.
