<meta charset="UTF-8" />A beautiful pair of ovoid-shaped cassolettes surrounded by a frieze of acanthus leaf scrolls; they rest on a square white marble base. The side handles are supported by chimera masks (a fantastic animal half lion, half goat, with the lion's muzzle and the goat's ears and horns). The handles end with very graceful scrolls in relief. Work from the Directoire-Consulate period, last years of the 18th century or around 1800, attributed to Claude Galle.

Claude Galle (1759-1815), bronze worker and founder-chaser, received master in 1786 and active rue Vivienne, supplied the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne under Louis XVI but also and especially under the Empire. He notably makes deliveries for the castles of Trianons, Fontainebleau, Saint-Cloud, Compiègne and the Tuileries Palace.

This model is distinguished by its sobriety as well as an excellent quality of execution. Everything is in bronze, nothing in brass. The ovoid parts are screwed together "in the mass" and not assembled by a threaded rod. Excellent quality of chiseling and superb gilding in matt and shiny, very deep.

These cassolettes are an element of neoclassical decoration with multiple uses: as a fireplace decoration, on a piece of furniture or even on a refined party table.

Excellent condition, no accidents or missing parts, very fresh gilding (original) with minimal wear, small minimal chips on the marble base.

    Total height with handles: 29cm
    Width: 14cm
