These two large silver-plated coolers feature a lining. They rest on a small molded pedestal, and the rim is decorated with a fillet. A shell-shaped handle on each side allows for easy handling. In good overall condition, they show some signs of wear, giving them a beautiful patina.
They are marked Christofle on the reverse side in full and bear a hallmark consisting of a scale, a bee between the plates, topped with four stars. Below are two branches, and the letters CC on each side. This hallmark was used from 1834 to 1935.
The Christofle silversmith house was founded in 1830 by Charles Christofle.
Christofle supplied King Louis-Philippe, Emperor Napoleon III, and the Tsar of Russia, among others. Its reputation is international.
It produces tableware, decorative items, and jewelry. A few minor dents should be noted.
Height 23 cm, diameter 21.5 cm, and width at the ears 28 cm.
