Tea caddy in Boulle marquetry and blackened wood, interior in mahogany veneer, fine mid-19th century production circa 1840 - 1850, typical of caddies from the early Napoleon III period.
The brass cartouche on the lid is engraved with a PG monogram.
Our box is signed by Vervelle Aîné: Alexandre Louis Vervelle, a great Parisian cabinetmaker born in 1800 and died in 1856 in Paris. His work is best known for small, precious pieces of cabinetwork (jewelry cassettes, liquor cabinets, tea boxes, travel kits...), and was highly prized from the 1835s onwards.
The set is in excellent condition. No missing or distorted Boulle marquetry. All inner lids are present, including the intermediate aluminum lids (those designed to ensure optimal preservation of aromas). The key is missing. A small but insignificant lack of plating on one edge.
