Walnut veneered travel writing case featuring a top with mother-of-pearl inlays at the corners, a central plate and a fillet around the perimeter punctuated with mother-of-pearl pastilles.
These decorations are openwork and formed by decorative arabesques. The front of the box features a circular mother-of-pearl entrance, accompanied by a key and an original hook lock in perfect working order.
Once open, we discover a slightly sloping front panel adorned with red leather with cold-stamped vignettes, gold vignettes and corner motifs. At the top, we find three compartments and a removable pencil holder revealing a cavity. A small inkwell completes the space.
The hinges are made of brass. A small brass latch also closes one of the two covers on this writing desk. These are revealed by pulling small triangular leather tabs. These small storage spaces were used for sheets, paper and envelopes.
A collector's item as well as a decorative object, this travel writing case will delight lovers of historical items, who will enjoy imagining the correspondences of which it was the witness and privileged accessory.
